Peppe and Carmen
" Ladies and gentlemen, just come in... talk about life? Who would be afraid?.. Mothers, fathers take care of your daughters... here you'll see you have never seen before... Old, young, boys or girls... do not hesitate...let's buy tickets..."
The script inspired by author's childhood is full of autobiographical components. Jana Wernerová, who is also the main character of Carmen, spent her childhood in the caravan and this kind of a life style she decided to describe in this play.
This stage - scenery has gained the authenticity hallmark by this utterance and you have the chance to see, hear and smell the world of people who call themselves "worldlings".
The play "Peppe and Carmen" is the eight stage - scenery in order of the theatre "Na peróne". It is a comedy with "a bitter taste" of present modern times, the life of the circus family forced to give up traditions and slowly but surely adapts to new trends. The story takes place in a circus tent whose owners have decided to sell it because of difficult living situation. The circus background in this play is only a synonym of the present art which is changing gradually to some kind of "an art fast food" and it is full of so called "stars and celebrities" who are ready to do anything for their 15 minutes of fame. For the beginning "just a small" drastic change of their look up to partial one and in those "best" cases up to total identity loss.
"You know, these days nobody wants the big art... Everyone wants to see the big tits...Jesus Christ, people...what's the matter with you?"
